Arkitek Idris is a local based Architectural firm founded by YB Dato Paduka AR Haji Idris Haji Abas in 1985. We started with 4 staff which has grown to encompass a resource of over 20 staff. The company has rapidly established itself as one of the leading firms in Brunei
YB Dato Idris was born in Brunei in 1950. Not long after graduation from the University of Newcastle in South East Australia YB Dato Idris returned to his home country of Brunei where he started working for JKR as an Architect. He was president of Brunei institute of Professional Architects, Engineers and Surveyors- PUJA(B) 2010 - 2014.
Over the 30+ years since the company started with growing members of staff, the Firm has also won numerous competition level projects and at the same time expanding into a wider range of architectural services such Interior Design, Landscape Design and Master Planning. Dato Idris also became the first Bruneian to win the APEA- Asia pacific Entrepreneur association award in 2008.

After completing a Bachelor of Architecture (Hons) at University of Newcastle, He returned to Brunei and served at the Public Works Department and became the Head of Architects Section. He is a Fellow of Royal Australian Institute of Architects (FRAIA), a Member of Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Fellow of Pertubuhan Ukur, Jurutera Dan Arkitek (Brunei) – PUJA (B).
In February 1985, He established his own firm, Arkitek Idris which is the first local architectural consultant to be awarded the Certificate of ISO 9001: 1994 and PBD ISO 9001: 1994. Arkitek Idris was a finalist in the 1996 RAIA International Architectural Award and Aga Khan Award 2001 cycles and has since won several architectural projects through competitions.
As a Bruneian professional dedicated to continued progress and improvement of his country, He became active in the planning process of the nation and community work. He has held numerous official positions, including the following:

•President of the National Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Brunei Darussalam (1994 -1997)
•President, ASEAN Association Of Planning & Housing (2000-2002)
•President of Brunei Darussalam Australia Alumni Association (BAAA)
His Majesty the Sultan Dan Yang DiPertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam appointed YB Dato to be a Nominated Member of the Legislative Council in 2004 and on His Majesty’s 60th Birthday 15th July 2006 he was being bestowed the title Darjah Seri Paduka Mahkota Brunei Yang Amat Mulia Darjah Kedua (DPMB).
He has since extended business activities and diversified into other related areas as follows:
•Partner/ Director of Digital Impression (multi-media design and publication company)
•Partner/ M. Director of ZST (ICT and solution provider company)
In 2008, YB Dato was awarded with the Asia Pacific Entrepreneur of the year (APEA) and was frequently asked, ‘What is my ingredient for success?’ to which he replys, ‘Basic qualifications, training, perseverance, honesty and integrity are essential to a successful career.”
